The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.

Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,

some momentary awareness comes

as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!

Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,

who violently sweep your house

empty of its furniture,

still, treat each guest honorably.

He may be clearing you out

for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,

meet them at the door laughing,

and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,

because each has been sent

as a guide from beyond.

This is a poetry which made people feel happy and relax; it gives people encouragement and also spire for readers to face the difficulties in their life. Author used anthropopathy way to describe the different feeling as guest in a guest room which made her poem more effective, livable and understandable.
Everyone in the society would have different depression and meanness in their life, As long as nobody can get away from some certain bad luck or awful day, instead of running away. Author tries to convince people to face and welcome them in your life. We should treat that bad thing happen in our life as a guest, a guest who can help us and teach us. We should not let the bad emotions, unlucky things and depression feelings bring us down. Like the author said “meet them at the door laughing and invited them in”, those bad things are also part of journal of every human being.
This poem is for everyone and especially for someone who loses their hope or in low depression of their life. This can help them understand it is normal to have some obstacle on their way of success. They should adjust themselves into a good mode to fix different obstacle and solve the depression. Be optimistically to every unexpected thing happened in their life. Life is not only consist by successful and favorably. This encouraged people that no matter what happen, how bad is still enjoy your life, still take those unfortunate things with a positive attitude.
